One of the fastest-forming parishes in the state, Ascension Parish is home to almost 120 thousand residents (as of 2015) and is a part of the Greater Baton Rouge area. The parish itself is home to two cities – Donaldsonville (the parish seat) and Gonzales, the town of Sorrento, as well as Lemannville and Prairieville. Ascension also contains dozens of unincorporated communities.
Ascension is also one of the 22 parishes that make up Acadiana, which explains the dozens of food-related festivals celebrated throughout the year including the Boucherie Festival, Lagniappe Music and Seafood Festival, Crawfish Festival, and the world famous Jamabalaya Festival.
Fun Fact: The largest city in the parish, Gonzales, is also the “Jambalaya Capital of the World”
